These diptychs consist of images captured in various parts of New York State and beyond. When encountering these places during times of political and social unrest, a global health crisis, and the piecemeal return to a new “normal,” I found myself interested in the disjuncture between the relative stillness of my surroundings and the chaos of the larger issues of the day. During more recent travels to Greece, I observed an entirely different landscape and culture and could not help but notice the deep sense of calm, connection, and reverence felt there for land and sea. Presenting these images as diptychs invites viewers to partake in a visual and intellectual odyssey that encourages reflection and a personal encounter with the world that I perceived and the connections that I made, filtered through their own unique life experiences and perspectives.
