Essentia

What lies beneath a completed work is seductive and has potential to reveal a deeper understanding of artistic impulses and how they are transformed through the artistic process from something ephemeral into something more concrete.
Both formats have their merit, yet the question of whether less is more now makes its appearance in the early stages of almost every painting that I begin.  How I answer that question may dictate whether I transform the sketch into something else or begin anew.
